Victims

We each took a couple of minutes yesterday and came up with a victim character that we would base the events of the narrative around if it was our own choice. These character sketches could include anything relevant: social, emotional, physical, psychological, intellectual or something to do with the events they are involved in. The ensemble then discussed each character in regard to what implications this has for the following:
  • the other characters (bystander, victim, parents, teachers, etc)
  • the narrative
  • demonising the bully
  • victim blaming
  • empowering the bystander to act

Nick's Victim

This is a break down of the character that I discussed:
  • male
  • unpopular: why?
    • what makes him unpopular?
    • what makes people unpopular?
    • unpopular with who?
    • Doesn't engage in risk taking or self destructive behavior
    • Tall poppy syndrome
    • doesn't belong because he doesn't fit the criteria
      • too smart
      • doesn't play right sport
      • difficulty in making friends
      • style is wrong or too extreme
  • Single parent family: doesn't receive much support from that single parent
  • non-confrontational
  • reserved
  • lonely
  • introvert: finds it difficult to reach out to people and make friends
  • bullied: both cyber and normal
  • kind
  • considerate
  • empathetic
  • low self esteem
  • Low self worth or value
  • Search for who he is and where he belongs: is this a common theme for adolescents
Definitely need a picture or spider diagram.
